How Did We Get Away With Everything?
Prompted with a collection inspired by a muse, I fell in love with the concept of young artists. Influenced by studio 54 and the many creatives who built New York City to be what it is today, I researched all about the city at the time and what these artists were doing. At the end of the day, everyone was uniquely them and feel free to be whoever they truly are- no matter gender, sexuality, or race. I was lucky enough to interview one of my professors at school who moved to the city during the 70s-80s. He was friends with Warhol, Basquiat, Harring, and other muses/stars such as Madonna, Debbie Harry, and Liza Minelli. He explained how beautiful it was watching everyone become successful from nothing. These creatives were out and about constantly involved in nightlife. Prior to media, the way to be discovered was showing yourself at nightclubs such as Mudd and the iconic Studio 54. I decided to dive deeper into the studio 54 concept, as I used to work and nightlife and love feeling free. The garments are inspired by disco and the 70s, modernizing silhouettes and taking reference from the club goers.
